Week one: Time to move my butt

The first challenge I’m tackling is becoming a regular exerciser. Predictable I know, but this is something I’ve struggled with as an adult.  I never saw myself as athletic or fit in any way and honestly thought that I never could be.

So now, after having two babies within 20 months of each other I’ve decided to give this fitness thing a decent effort.  I’m letting go of the old beliefs about myself and seeing where this will take me.

I think one thing that prevented me from attempting this before was the belief that I’d have to spend hours killing myself at the gym to get the results I wanted. Not a great enticement. But I’ve come to realize that I just have to start somewhere. To be patient with myself.

This past Sunday was Mother’s Day here. I received (after dropping many hints) a Fitbit. So I’ve set myself a minimum target of 10,000 steps per day. I’m pleased to say that since then I’ve hit that every day.  My ideal would be to get 20,000 steps per day but for now anything over 10,000 will be fantastic. I have been taking a shorter walk during the day with the kids in tow plus a longer walk in the evening when the kids are in bed.  I’ve really been enjoying the fresh air and time to myself to think.  Eventually I plan to fit in another early morning walk before everyone wakes up.  Unfortunately my youngest (9 months old) has had a nasty flu so I’ve been running lower on sleep than usual. With her on the mend I’ll soon be heading out at 6am for a walk whenever possible.  I’ll keep you abreast of my progress!

Off for our morning walk! Being able to walk and wear my daughter at the same time means we usually squeeze in a nap too.
